The National Fraternal Order of Police recently reported that more police officers were shot during the first five months of this year than during the same period last year, attributing the increase to the “defund the police” movement as well as the anti-police rhetoric.

As we have reported in previous issues of Intelligence Brief, this defund movement is part of a larger agenda to divide the people, create violence and chaos, and convince the federal government to act and “solve” the problem.

However, in doing so, the federal government would act outside of its constitutional limitations, not to mention upsetting the very balance the Founding Fathers created that protects local communities from a national police force. This is something that helps to separate America from many other countries. A national police force serves the central government and not the local communities. In America, local police provide the proper buffer to an overbearing federal government by serving the local communities.

Thus, the federal government would “solve” the problem by usurping more and more control from the states, creating an entangling alliance that would eventually skew the allegiance of local police to the federal government.

Independence of local police is key. They must only answer to their local community and never the federal government. Resist the opportunity to create entangling alliances with the federal government, especially in way of accepting any training, equipment, grants, or other resources.

The Constitution grants no area of responsibility for Congress to interfere with local policing. According to the 10th Amendment, any powers not delegated to the federal government are kept with the states, the people. This brief demonstrates that the proposed George Floyd Justice in Policing Act is unconstitutional and should never see debate in Congress.

The rising crime rates seen in areas that have led the defund movement have caused some elected officials to realize that there is no substitute for local police. Sending a social worker instead of a trained, professional police officer to a domestic dispute will only create additional problems at best and get someone killed at worst. Communities are starting to reverse their decisions by these left-leaning elected officials who have given Black Lives Matter and Antifa undeserved credibility and a place within decision-making.

We hope communities recognize the folly of their elected officials and work to replace them with those who respect local police and understand the important role police play in keeping their local communities safe.
