Elementary school honors Jason Weiland

Thomas Jefferson Elementary School in Wausau, Wis. has dedicated a bench in honor of fallen officer Jason Weiland, who was shot and killed during a shooting spree on March 22, 2017.

According to waow.com, the school – where Weiland attended as a child – raised $450 to have the bench made. It will be placed on the school playground to remind students to use words, not violence, when there is a disagreement.

The dedication ceremony involved the entire school, and students were asked “What is a hero?” Many of them answered “A hero is someone who saves lives.”
