Detective Jason Weiland of Everest, Wisc., was shot and killed by a gunman on March 22, 2017. According to the Wausau Daily Herald, Weiland was establishing a perimeter around the apartment building the shooter had barricaded himself in when he was shot. Weiland, along with three civilians, were killed as part of the shooter's rampage, which was the result of a domestic dispute. Weiland left behind a wife and two children. Last week, LECF presented his widow with a check for $1000. Part of LECF’s mission is to offer charitable support for families of police officers killed in the line of duty and grants to law enforcement agencies for protective equipment, educational training, and memorials.
